Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry

Pediatric dentistry is a specialized branch of dentistry aimed towards the comprehensive management of children with dental problems. Prevention and education are the key ways of promoting oral health collectively. Our goal is to produce a caries free generation. We intend to give every child an opportunity to maintain good oral health throughout life by timely counselling and tailored preventive programs. In the course of the same, we intend to set a foreground for the early identification of risk factors, evaluation of oral development, fluoride therapy , management of oral habits, prevention of oral injuries and modification of dietary and oral hygiene practices, dental care for the special children and initiating timely dental intervention.

The Department of Pedodontics and Preventive dentistry was started in the year 2004 with 100 undergraduate students for BDS course. The Post graduate unit was initiated in the year 2008 with an intake of 3 Postgraduates per year for MDS course. This department trains undergraduate students for the fulfilment of the course in the Bachelor of Dental Surgery(BDS) and also offers three year full time course in Master of Dental Surgery(MDS).

The entire department spans over an area of 8,750 sq.fts with separate undergraduate and postgraduate sections along with colourful play area which offers an affable, vivacious environment for the benefit of the children. This department also has isolation and conscious sedation sections to facilitate effective treatment for uncooperative and disabled children. This branch encompasses a seminar hall with latest audiovisual aids and also includes a separate department library with over 100 reference books including a computer with 24 hrs internet connection.

The clinic includes 42 dental chair units and is well equipped with sophisticated instruments including Conscious sedation, Laser, digital radiography section, endomotors with integrated apex locator, Light emitting diode (LED) curing units to provide an efficient treatment to the patients.It includes a state of the art sterilization section. Along with the basic equipment the clinical laboratory also consists of a Hydrosolder unit and Easyvac pressure moulding machine. The clinic is well equipped with sophisticated instruments to provide an efficient treatment to our child patients.
