Department of Physiology

The department of physiology functioning since the inception of this prestigious institute in 2002, under Dr. NTR University of health Sciences and is recognized by the Dental Council of India. The students here are educated and trained to have knowledge of normal functioning of the systems in human body along with practical knowledge. They are trained to get good knowledge in the applied aspects which are the basis for the diagnosis of clinical conditions.

The department has full pledged infrastructure, equipment and experienced and qualified staff as per Dental Council of India requirement. The UG course is fully recognized by the DCI.The department is headed by Dr. G. Usha, with 27years of teaching experience and who have guided number of postgraduates both M.D. physiology and MSc Physiology who have passed in their exams with distinctions. She is assisted by two enthusiastic teaching staff Miss K.Deepthi and Dr. K. Vydehi, who help in the smooth running of the teaching schedules.

The infrastructure facilities include a spacious lecture hall with all the audiovisual equipments, well equipped laboratory with required equipments including the spirometer, ergometer, bicycle ergometer etc for hematology, clinical physiology and experimental physiology. Physiology department also has a section library, demonstration room and staff room etc.Didactics lectures, practical sessions, demonstrations supported by enriched learning methods such as tutorials, small group discussion, seminars, quizzes, problem based learning practiced.

The overall efficiency of the department is reflected by the annual success rate of 65 to 75% with significant rise in the number of distinction and first classes. The Department of Physiology is proud to be part of the overall efforts and success story of VDC which ranks among the top most dental institutes of the state

Today the importance of whole body Human Physiology for understanding organ and cellular physiology and for designing meaningful cellular or molecular biology experiments cannot be overemphasized. Physiology as a subject has a central role in medical science. It plays a critical role in learning the principles of medicine as it is concerned with the knowledge of body functions. Understanding the whole body physiology is also basic prerequisite for physicians practicing medicine. Physiology as a medical subject has changed over years from its non clinical and preclinical format to the pre clinical subject as Applied and clinical physiology

Goals and objectives of the Department.
-On completion of the course we aim at the student able to describe how human organism is arranged in to functional levels, and how it is designed to maintain homeostasis and able to discuss the significance if maintaining homeostasis. We also aim at the student learning the functional structure and functions of the different systems of the body with the emphasis on the applied aspects of the system.
-The knowledge of physiology should useful in learning Pharmacology and Pathology. Student having the thorough knowledge of normal functioning and applied aspect of the different systems of the human body should be able to diagnose the condition of the patient in clinical surroundings
